Cambridge City Ringing

As long ago as December 2001, the Cambridge Mayor's Office asked us to comply with Buckingham Palace's request for bell ringing and church services on Sunday 2nd June. The bells of every tower in the city were duly booked for quarter peals in advance but, as is often the way with ringers, some of the bands were completed only hours before.

The bells at St Edward's were alternately fired and rung in Queen's 50 times before the special morning service, and quarter peals were rung at all seven Anglican towers (St Andrew the Great, St Benedict, St Edward King and Martyr, St Mary the Great, Chesterton, Cherry Hinton, Trumpington) within the City boundary. The eighth quarter peal was rung later at the Roman Catholic church (Our Lady and the English Martyrs), making a complete set for the City of Cambridge.
