My Personal View of the EDA GC meeting, of 25th July 2026
(This is not an official announcement of the EDA – Just my own take!)
If EDA members have any questions, please take them up with your district secretary.
It was a short meeting!
1) There is an initiative called ringing 2030 which the EDA would support. The requirements seem vague now.
2) There are some EDA committee member stepping down (or reaching an end milestone in their service) at this year’s AGM. They are
a. General Secretary.
b. Bell Advisor
c. Chair.
It was agreed to advertise these roles starting in September 2026
3) The 2026 AGM was reviewed. There were no adverse comments. Ensuring all documents are adequately circulated ahead of time does shorten the AGM.
4) A discussion took place concerning separating the ‘membership year’ and the ‘subscription year’ to aid various accounting processes. The Admin. Committee will produce a firm proposal for the 2027 AGM (for implementation in 2028).
5) The issue of young people interested in bells maintenance was discussed, concerning safeguarding. We need to investigate if DBS checks in one church cover all bells maintenance in the diocese.
6) We had a volunteer to take the role of EDA report editor!
7) There was a discussion about the BRF buying (as a capital purchase) training aids for use in the diocese. The BRF has never bought a capital item before, so more investigation is needed. An ‘in principle’ vote was taken to proceed with the investigation.
